Mount salem christian school
new construction

The Mount Salem Christian School engaged Baribeau Construction to lead the planning and coordination of a new 38,104 square foot school for children from Kindergarten to Grade 8. Longevity and practicality were the primary elements that drove the design. By consulting local "Trade Champions" during the design process, the team specified many elements that could be constructed affordably while incorporating some of the toughest building materials where abuse is inevitable. The design took into consideration the future growth of the school and planned for a 17,000 square foot addition. The project will break ground in 2023 and is scheduled to be completed by early summer 2024.

Reid Bayliff, project manager

What has stood out to you about this project so far?

"This feels different than any project I've worked on to date. It's been great to be a part of a project that has been a dream of the school and community for the last 30 years. Everyone wants to see the project succeed and many local trades are doing their part to keep the costs low and a successful project for everyone.

I've been humbled to be a part of the team that gets to make the dream a reality. Along with this, I have felt the weight and importance of what this means to the community and the people that will occupy the building in the fall."

What's unique about this project?

"This building had many different systems and components regarding the structure. The building structure consists of steel columns, beams and deck, wood framed walls and SIPs roof panels, block walls, precast walls and hollow core panels.

It required careful attention and foresight to capture all the connections between dissimilar materials while keeping pace with the speed of the construction."

What details have you been intentional with that you think other construction companies would've just ignored?

"Having Ryan as a site supervisor is a huge asset. He brings 25 years of drywall experience with him and can see how one decision earlier in the project can make for a difficult finish or less than ideal end product for the client. We have been intentional to consider how each wall and ceiling will finish, knowing that one teacher may occupy a single classroom for many years."
